Start The Day Right: Gratitude & Affirmations ✨

We often take waking up in the morning for granted. Too often we view it as a burden to get out of bed, maybe there’s lots of tasks to accomplish that day and we just want to stay where we’re warm and safe. But waking up in the morning is a gift that we should acknowledge, appreciate and make the most of.

Tomorrow morning when you wake up, try saying to yourself inside your mind (or aloud if you like!) ‘I am blessed to have woken up this morning and I am going to have a great day.’ Think of things you can do which may add a bit of substance to your day: to-do list writing, making healthy food, exercise, go a walk in nature, do something crafty or creative – any healthy habits, routines and activities.

How you start the day determines your mindset and the outcomes of that particular day, so make sure you start it right. Instead of ‘I can’t be bothered getting up and doing stuff today’ why not try ‘I am excited to see where this day takes me and I am able to accomplish what I set out to do.’ Visualise yourself having the best possible day that you can imagine for yourself.

At first, integrating gratitude and positive affirmations may feel strange, unnatural or false in some way, especially if you are very used to negative self-talk, bouts of anger and irritability or if you suffer from frequent low moods. But trust me as someone who has been there them self, it becomes easier and more natural the more grateful you feel.

Do not underestimate the power of affirmations. Your thoughts create your reality and you are in control. Be mindful of your darker trains of thought – catch them, stop them and replace them with positive and peaceful thoughts. Catch yourself whenever your mind begins to drift back to that dark place. Say to yourself something along the lines of: ‘I am worthy, I deserve happiness, I love myself and my flaws, I have a positive mindset that can achieve anything.’

I think mindset, optimism and healthy habits are especially important through the difficult times that our world is currently experiencing. Are there particular routines/ways of thinking you’ve developed as a way of coping throughout the pandemic? Let me know in the comments.

I hope you all stay healthy, happy and safe throughout 2021, love and light to you all. ✨
